Reflexology Services

During your reflexology session, your therapist will apply a painless pressure to your feet using their thumb and forefinger to identify which areas of your body aren’t functioning properly. Sessions vary in lengths of 30, 60, and 90 minute sessions and focus on the soles of your feet.

Reflexology is a Chinese principle that specifically targets areas on the soles of your feet or hands – known as reflex zones – containing a large number of nerve endings, related to different parts of the body. This practice is dated approximately 3,000 years old and was used to pinpoint certain areas to help stimulate organs, nerve endings and energy pathways to promote health.

Reflexology is an alternative type of massage therapy which focuses on specific parts of the body- the foot, ear, or head- in order to target deep relaxation and balance your internal energy flow, similar to acupressure. All is Well Massage and SPA is excited to present you with a foot reflexology massage service provided by highly-skilled certified massage therapists.

When you come in for your foot reflexology massage, you will be settled in our Oasis room where one of our licensed massage therapists will utilize artisanal reflexology techniques to apply pressure on special parts of your feet to release inner relaxation. As the foot reflexology massage progresses, you will start to feel your bodily energy come into balance while you sink into complete tranquility.

Your foot reflexology massage will leave you feeling rejuvenated and energized as your mind is able to achieve synchronization with your body.

Other benefits you may receive from a foot reflexology massage can include

  • Reduction of tension
  • Increased joint mobility
  • Better blood circulation
  • Detoxification of muscles
  • Stress and anxiety relief
  • Pain relief for your feet
  • Much more!

A foot reflexology massage may not be for everyone. Please inform your massage therapist if you have poor veins or any condition on your feet which would cause pain.

For most people, however, a foot reflexology massage is a great choice for massage therapy. It is recommended for anybody who wants to try an alternative type of massage.

How does it work exactly?

Great question! It has been shown that this is directly correlated with nerve impulses, aka the parasympathetic branch of the autonomic nervous system. Reflexology works through the nerve endings to relax and calm the body. Manual pressure applied to the feet or hands stimulate the nerve endings through the neural pathways to the central nervous system and back.

  • TCM Meridian Theory (Chi or Ki) – energy pathways are stimulated during Reflexology, helping to clear blockages along these channels.
  • Gate Control and Endorphin release – for pain management.
  • The intrinsic need for nurturing human touch – to give a sense of overall well-being and improve the quality of life

Who is a good candidate for this service?

The beauty of Reflexology is that it is safe for just about anyone. Young and old can benefit. There are some reasons where Reflexology should not be considered, or to be used with extreme caution – among those are:

  • Infections of the foot or contagious illness.
  • Deep Vein Thrombosis, Severe Edema.
  • High-Risk pregnancy or history of miscarriage.
  • Trauma to the feet (broken bones, open sores or wounds, osteoporosis).
  • Any serious health condition – consult your physician.

Is it safe for children?

Absolutely! Children over the age of 8 years old are welcome with parental consent. You and your family can use Reflexology as a means to comfort, bond, and relax with each other.

Why should I get reflexology?

Reflexology is becoming one of the fastest growing complementary therapies in the U.S. Reflexology can help reduce the side effects of many chronic conditions. Many of today’s health problems are due in a large part, to stress. We live in a world of constant stress. If left unchecked, stress can produce ill effects – mental, physical, and emotional. Reflexology relaxes the body and helps to combat the negative effects of stress. Reflexology is safe and effective for just about everyone.

How often should I get this service?

Frequency of visits depends on your health and wellness goals. Clients with chronic conditions can benefit from bi-weekly or weekly sessions. Monthly visits can help keep stress in check and build immunity. Weekly to every other week is common to average. But there is nothing keeping you from maximizing your relaxation and coming as often as you like.

What’s the difference between this service and a foot massage?

Many people confuse Reflexology with Massage. There are many differences between these two modalities – each having its own strengths, application, and techniques for example. Massage is performed to the soft tissues of the body. Reflexology is performed only the feet, hands or ears. Reflexology is a science based on the premise that there are zones and reflex areas in the feet, hands and ears, which correspond to all glands, organs, parts and systems of the body. The physical act of applying pressure using the thumb, finger and hand techniques to these areas results in the reduction of stress which promotes physiological changes in the body.

Do I have to take off my clothes?

No, only your shoes and socks are removed for the foot reflexology.

Does Reflexology help diagnose?

No, only a licensed healthcare provider can provide a medical diagnosis.  Reflexology only identifies where stress, tension, acids and toxins are located in the body  (by a buildup of  uric acid crystals on the reflex points on the bottom of the feet).

What does Reflexology do for me?

Reflexology is primarily used to produce deep therapeutic relaxation to relieve stress and tension.  It is agreed in the medical community that over 75% of health problems can be linked to nervous and physical tension.  By reducing stress and tension, reflexology strengthens immune system function, improves blood and lymph circulation, improves assimilation of nutrition and elimination of toxins, and calms the nervous system, thereby facilitating the body’s natural processes and enhancing the body’s overall health and vitality.

How many sessions of Reflexology are recommended?

At least three to six consecutive Reflexology sessions, are recommended to

get greater therapeutic results.

What can I expect from a Reflexology session?

It is a clothed session where only the removal of the shoes and socks are required.  The reflexologist uses pressure, stretching and movement to work through both feet, hands and/or ears completely and methodically.  At the end of the session, you should feel completely relaxed and refreshed. Some people feel invigorated and ready to “take on the world”. Others feel so relaxed, detoxed and de-stressed such that they went home to take a cat nap afterwards. Please be advised that reflexology does detox the body and breakups uric acid crystals, which feel like little (sometimes painful) beads in the bottom of the feet. Therefore, we would recommend that you drink plenty of water after a session.
